Do you only serve homeschoolers?
We are happy to welcome any student interested in the material. Because the reading is demanding, it might be difficult for school kids to add it to their workload, but if you're willing, we are too!
What class should I take?
There are no prerequisites for any of the courses, but to get the full effect, we recommend starting with Lit 1 as an 8th or 9th grader and working through the four chronological courses year by year. The best case scenario has students starting with Lit 1 in 8th grade so that they are able to take Advanced Lit in their senior year.
There is nothing stopping you from taking a single course or a couple here and there. And if you prefer to just jump in on the Advanced Lit course, that's fine too.
Can my younger student take a class?
The classes are geared toward high schoolers, with the exception of Lit 1, which is fine for average or advanced 8th graders. We don't generally recommend any course for younger students, but we'll leave that decision up to parents. If they are ready for high school level reading and discussion, we are glad to have them.
Do you provide the books?
No, but we can help you get them. Feel free to make use of the library if you like. We provide links to the books on Amazon. We've made it easy to order an entire course-worth in one fell swoop if that's what you'd like.
Do you provide grades?
Yes, even though I hate them. Students will take a short, graded quiz each week on the material they were to read. There will also be two papers and two projects due each course (one per quarter). Course grades will be based on these assessments.
At the end of each course, passing students will receive a certificate of completion that you can use for your records.
What's your refund policy?
This is a dumb question, of course. You are going to love this course. But in the extraordinarily unlikely case you don't, we'll be happy to refund your full tuition as long as you let us know within the first 30 days of class. After that, we will prorate a refund up till 90 days. After 90 days, no refunds will be possible--mostly because we'll have spent all the money on champagne and caviar.
What if I miss a class session?
No problem at all. In fact, we expect a good number of students to miss the live session on a regular basis. Some students might even take the course even though their schedules don't work at all. That's because we record every class session and make it immediately available to students so you can watch and re-watch whenever you like. Of course, if you miss the class session, you won't be able to participate in the discussion or get your questions answered promptly. If you email us with questions, we'll do our best to reply as soon as possible.
Do you offer family discounts?
Not exactly. But if you'd like more than one of your children to take the same course simultaneously, you can do that and only pay one tuition price. That is, both students can participate in the reading and the class sessions. We'll only be able to grade one quiz per week, however, and only one student will be able to submit a paper and/or project quarterly. You can work that out any way you like.
Is this a faith-based program?
Yes. Brian and Melanie are evangelical Christians who have always been active in their local church. We come from distinctly Christian perspectives and will be eager to share that perspective with students. That said, we are eager to include students from different faith traditions in the course. We will be respectful toward them and will not seek to proselytize in this environment. We just want them to know that our point of view will be unabashedly influenced by our Christian convictions.
